One of the first weekends in Switzerland, Tania and her mother (both from the SF Bay Area) took me to Italy to show me around and to visit their family. I drove Tania’s tight ride, Jorge (a Toyota Yaris), to Florence where we enjoyed the world’s best gelato (Italian ice cream) on multiple occasions. We walked around, shopped, and visited some of the famous sites. We climbed the big bell tower next to the church in central Florence and gazed out into a sea of red tile roofs covering the entire city. It was an enchanting day and my first Italian experience was a good one.

The Italians have a very distinct way of life. It’s hard to sum it all up in a paragraph, but from what I have experienced they drive like they just stole the car, take their time eating (and with everything else they do for that matter), and the men treat the women like dirt (to American standards). I guess the American girls hold a reputation for being easy over there…gee, wonder why? Italian cities are generally dirty from my observation, but the food is amazing!

We made the brutal and seemingly endless climb to the top where the view made up for all the time and effort of the climb. We enjoyed the view of Florence from high above - as you can see, the buildings in this city have red tile roofs.
