[ Defected in China - DJ Spencer in the House ]

Last night was a blast. I managed to get a hold of VIP tickets (thanks Rose!) to the newest club in Hangzhou. Knowing the clubs in Hangzhou, I wasn't all that excited, primarily because of the music that gets played by local DJ's (Asian Techno) and the emotionless, smoking, drinking businessmen that make up the majority of the crowds. The ticket read:

DJ Spencer (UK). Defected is the international House music label with 5 nominations at this years Dancestar awards including BEST LABEL. DJ Style: Unique - influences include Roger Sanchez, Daft Punk, DJ Sneak and Erick Morillo.

Needless to say, after reading the influences, I knew the music was going to be top-shelf House served straight from the UK. A bit edgier than the more soulful Deep House that flows from the San Francisco Bay Area, but nonetheless, top-shelf. You should've seen my shirt at midnight, soaked front and back from being worked into a craze by the DJ. There were many foreign faces amongst the crowd from such countries as: Africa, Norway, USA, England and Australia. The crowd was feelin' it! It got so wet 'n wild in there that my camera lens fogged up. The track that enveloped me was Del Gado - Coffee Beats (Volume 2) - the Brazillian / Latin Vibe, tribal percussion put me in the zone and made me ask, "where were you when you first heard House music?" It was the first time that House Music was played in Hangzhou by another (international) DJ than myself. Last December, Mr. Jon P came out to play Progressive and blew the roof off of Club Stargate. Does this mean more and more international jet-setting DJ's will come to South East China? Let's cross our fingers, I certainly am. And I hope Spencer can return; as the gentleman (and joker!) he is, Hangzhou will surely welcome him back.
